On July 14, 2026 a bill was introduced in Congress, called the Vaccine Injury Compensation Modernization Act, that proposes significant changes to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).If passed, the legislation would require COVID-19 vaccines to be added to the Vaccine Injury Table, allowing eligible individuals to seek compensation through the VICP. The bill also creates a pathway for RSV vaccines, Shingrix (shingles) vaccines, and dengue vaccines to become covered by the VICP.

The Bill Would Also:

• Increase the minimum number of Special Masters from 8 to at least 10.
• Increase compensation for vaccine-related death and pain and suffering from $250,000 to up to $600,000.
• Extend the deadline to file a VICP claim from 36 months to 5 years.

What This Means

If enacted, this bill could mean that people who suffer injuries from COVID-19, RSV, and Shingrix vaccines may be eligible for compensation in the near future through the VICP.

It is important to note that this is proposed legislation only. The bill has been introduced in Congress but has not been enacted into law.
